Does the community feel warm and inviting?

You’ll want a community that feels comfortable and inviting for your loved one both in its physical atmosphere and from the staff who work there.  Look for a well-staffed community that is able to provide as much personalized attention as possible, so they can learn more about each resident’s unique life story.

Is the community explicitly and expertly designed to accommodate the special needs of residents with dementia?

It’s important to have a community that is designed for those with memory needs.  Look for color and design cue’s, a secured environment and unique space for events, activities and areas to visit with family.

Are the community team members knowledgeable and supportive?

On-going training under the leadership of those who have specialized training in memory support is critical when providing this highly-specialized care.

Is the environment purpose built using evidence-based design principles and best practices in memory care?

Ginger Cove opened The Heritage, a 67,100-square-foot building with an expertly-designed environment for memory support.  Located on the third floor of The Heritage, the memory care community is self-contained and secure.  All resident rooms are private, furnished and feature a large safety-equipped en-suite bathroom.

How does the community’s programs stimulate memories?

We use a unique specialized evidence-based program at Ginger Cove, known as Legacy, to build on each resident’s strengths, personal interests and encourage cognitive function.

Is there a good mix of planned and spontaneous social and enrichment activities?

Consider memory care programs providing opportunities to meet and pursue both personal and shared interests and activities. Is there adequate space for parties, special events, and worship services?

What types of medical care is available on-site and how far away is the nearest hospital?

Think about the ability for a community to quickly respond to an immediate medical need. Is there nursing staff available on a 24-7 basis and is pharmacy care available?

How does the community support and respect resident’s independence?

Ginger Cove’s memory care focuses on ways to increase each resident’s self-identity and self-esteem.

What are the health services provided at the community?

Does the community have staff available 24/7?  Is there a physician available onsite?  Is there additional care available such as skilled nursing or rehabilitation?

How does a memory care program bring residents a sense of joy?

Our aim at Ginger Cove is to evoke interest, promote safety and minimize confusion and overstimulation while giving each resident a sense of purpose and joy.
